Cisco’s collaboration with Splunk and Australian Signals Directorate to enhance threat intelligence sharing

Cisco, the US technology multinational, has announced a strategic partnership between its subsidiary, Splunk, and the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD). This collaboration aims to deliver a new plug-in that integrates the ASD’s Cyber Threat Intelligence Sharing (CTIS) platform with Splunk Enterprise Security. This integration will enable ASD’s partners to share cyber threat intelligence at scale, enhancing their ability to respond to malicious activities. Recent research indicates that only three per cent of Australian organisations have achieved a mature level of readiness to combat current cyber threats, with unplanned downtime costing the economy an estimated $86 billion annually.

Marc Caltabiano, Group Vice President for Australia and New Zealand at Splunk, emphasised the importance of this partnership in bolstering cyber resilience across government and industry. He noted that as cyber security becomes increasingly central to economic security, the integration with the ASD’s platform equips customers with vital intelligence to protect essential services. As of July 2025, participation in the CTIS platform will be mandatory for federal government agencies, and it will also be available to private sector organisations, particularly those involved in critical infrastructure. Stephanie Crowe, Head of ASD’s Australian Cyber Security Centre, supports this initiative as a crucial step towards enhancing national cyber security.
