Stripe agrees to buy OpenRouter as AI model routing expands

Stripe has agreed to acquire OpenRouter, an AI model-routing platform, in a deal Reuters values at over $8 billion. OpenRouter gives developers access to 400+ models from 80+ providers through a single API, routing requests based on cost, speed, reliability, and data-handling requirements. The acquisition complements Stripe's existing token-based billing tools. OpenRouter reports processing over 10 trillion tokens daily across more than 10 million developers.
